You're Not Needed...

I have decided to invest in a new floor so I certainly won’t need your type of service is a response we hear from time to time.

That may be the case but there is still much you should carefully consider. First, what sort of floor are you considering having laid? Many factory produced engineered floor do have their top finishes and if that is the case you may not need our services for a number of years. On the other hand there are many engineered floors which come unfinished. They do not require sanding but they do require finishing.

Certainly, you may decide to allow the floor layer to finish the floor or do so yourself or even employ a painter and decorator to do it on your behalf, however, each of these decisions may well be flawed. Does the layer really know what finish is best for your floor? Do you what to choose? Too often we may follow the recommendation of the supplier and end up with a finish we can barely live with. What about the painter and decorator? Are you sure that you won’t end up with a sealant suitable for door s and not floors? They are quite different. Or you may end up with an inappropriate oil which gives little or no protection. The technology of floor coatings has changed radically over the last few years.

What though, if you lay a solid wood floor that requires sanding? It may be that you purchased the floor through a floor fitting company who integrate the fitting with a sanding and sealing service and that may be o.k.

If on the other hand you have employed a firm of joiners or cabinetmakers to fit the floor? They may well do a superb job of securing flooring to the joists and finish of with perfect skirtings but do they have equipment and experience to finish the floor correctly or will they slip along to the hire centre, bring a machine on site and attempt to finish the floor professionally? Boy, can that be a mistake!

So although it may be the case that if you have decided to purchase a new floor there are still occasions where you might well want to talk to us and received advice rather than hastily decide something you regret later. Don’t be embarrassed because you are not immediately considering using us. We do view our role in life as one of offering objective suggestions and guidance. Even if don’t use us it is likely that you won’t forget us and quite probable that you may recommend us to others.
