The virtual no dust sanding process...
Regardless of what you may have heard there is not a way of sanding a floor and guaranteeing that the process will be completely dust free. That is why in our company we talk of virtual dust free sanding.
We have invested in some of the best equipment available and even utilising it as it is provided gives us at least 97% removal of dust. We now have gone beyond this and connect up our machines to vacuums. The main cutting sanders are where practical connected to a truck mounted cyclonic vacuum unit to remove the dust right out of the property.
Sanding is a multi–step process of scratching the surface of the wood to first obtain a new surface and then to smooth the surface. All too often, so called, professional sanders cut-out some of the steps to save time and effort. The finished job can look acceptable but as the floor hasn’t been completed to the best obtainable smooth surface the sealant or finish just will not last as long. Similarly, nearly every DIY job undertaken will at its best be only adequate but will never be satisfactory.
Our main finishing sander is self-contained and contains the dust as it smoothes off the surface of the wood. The smoother the better, as the finish will adhere and penetrate into the wood and provide a longer lasting result.
If you would like to learn more about the way a floor is sanded and the various grades of abrasive that are used ask for our explanatory leaflet ‘Sanding methods and abrasives’.
It is normal for us to seal the room we are working in to prevent any possible contamination and where required we will erect containment screens .
