Don't Assume ...

If you have an old floor under the carpet be careful that you don’t assume how it will look until after it is examined. The following pictures should give you an idea of just how old floors once finished can look and just how different they appear.

In addition to the natural variances of one floor against another you should consider the differences that can be achieved by adopting a different preparation or finishing method.

Floors can be scrubbed rather than sanded. They can be shallow sanded to leave signs of their distressed history. They can be dyed or stained. Colour can be rubbed into them. Multi-layers of colour can be used to achieve different effects. They can be either sealed or oiled. Colour can be added to the sealants.
